Falcons Excel at Stirling

11 young swimmers from Forfar Amateur Swimming Club competed for the first time in the Stirling Junior Open Swim Meet this weekend (Sat 21st and Sun 22nd Jan). This gala attracts the best junior swimmers from the whole of Scotland and therefore it was against the best in the country that the Falcons were competing. That the swimmers came away with a phenomenal 22 personal best times, three places in finals and a bronze medal is testament to the great strides forward these swimmers and the club has made in recent years.

On Saturday Fiona McKenzie, Megan Finlayson, Blair Crawford, Jamie Wilmshurst, Roslyn McKenzie, Victoria Stodart, Ryan Nicoll and Beth Harrison swam superbly to get a total of 12 personal best times in 17 races. Jamie was fifth in the 100metre Butterfly final, fifth in the 200m Individual Medley and secured a bronze medal in the 100metre Freestyle. On Sunday the haul of new personal best times was added to when, joined by Glen Milne, Barbara Shaw and Matthew Powrie, the swimmers achieved a further ten new PB times coupled with a further fifth place for Jamie in the 100m Backcrawl.

Next week some of these swimmers will be competing on the national stage again when they compete in the Scottish Schools Finals at Tollcross in Glasgow. The rest of the junior swimmers will be competing in the Girls v Boys annual gala at Websters Sports Centre on Saturday 28th January.
